Matrox G400

matrox G400 Nichts für Gameboys, dafür erste Sahne für schnelles und gestochen scharfes 2D auf zwei hochlauflösenden Screens. Für 3D leider kaum zu gebrauchen, aber erste Wahl für Videoschnitt, Audio-Anwendungen mit hohem Raumbedarf bei gleichzeitig geringem Bandbreitenverbrauch für Video - schliesslich sollen hier hauptsächlich mal Audiodaten durch den notorisch schmalbrüstigen PCI-Bus. Auch die Hardware-Videoskalierung hat gewaltig ihre Qualitäten, etwa beim klassischen Videoschnittplatz mit zwei Monitoren. Die Qualitäten des Schriftrenderings bei grösseren Layout- oder Programmierungsaufgaben der Matrox GP sind ebenfalls Legende - ganz zu schweigen von "geekigen" Linux-Features, wie der -qualitativ kaum schlagbaren- Videoausgabe auf der Textkonsole(!): mplayer -vo fbdev2 -fs VIDEO.avi ist immer ein sicherer Verblüffer. 🙂

Die dazugehörigen Kernels sollten die notwendigen Framebuffer- und Font-Module fest eincompiliert haben, dazu die notwendigen Modules aus der MGA-Source. Googlen lohnt, es gibt einige recht ausführliche Kernel-Configs im Netz, die ich hier nicht nochmals wiederholen möchte.
