Nichts für Gameboys, dafür erste Sahne für schnelles und gestochen scharfes 2D auf zwei hochlauflösenden Screens. Für 3D leider kaum zu gebrauchen, aber erste Wahl für Videoschnitt, Audio-Anwendungen mit hohem Raumbedarf bei gleichzeitig geringem Bandbreitenverbrauch für Video - schliesslich sollen hier hauptsächlich mal Audiodaten durch den notorisch schmalbrüstigen PCI-Bus. Auch die Hardware-Videoskalierung hat gewaltig ihre Qualitäten, etwa beim klassischen Videoschnittplatz mit zwei Monitoren. Die Qualitäten des Schriftrenderings bei grösseren Layout- oder Programmierungsaufgaben der Matrox GP sind ebenfalls Legende - ganz zu schweigen von "geekigen" Linux-Features, wie der -qualitativ kaum schlagbaren- Videoausgabe auf der Textkonsole(!): mplayer -vo fbdev2 -fs VIDEO.avi ist immer ein sicherer Verblüffer. 🙂

Die dazugehörigen Kernels sollten die notwendigen Framebuffer- und Font-Module fest eincompiliert haben, dazu die notwendigen Modules aus der MGA-Source. Googlen lohnt, es gibt einige recht ausführliche Kernel-Configs im Netz, die ich hier nicht nochmals wiederholen möchte.
