I came up with the original bass line and drum pattern hooking up a set of Roland percussion pads with my Nerd Lead after getting somewhat bored of sampled percussion sets. In the end I hadn't played much around with the Nord's virtual analog percussions at all as I usually intended but developed a nice progression from the rather laid back bass line in the beginning to a quite hard and beefy finale. Using the old-skool recipe of adding layer after layer with each break following a stubborn 4x4 scheme (heritage from the bad old days when programming MIDI sequencers meant dealing with the brain damaging job of keeping track of what you had stored under which number on that terrible 7-segment-display and in which order to link them) lead to this piece of quite orthodox progressive trance.
Not too innovative, but as I think a nice example of how to get multiple rhythmic and melodic parts into a consistant arrangement and how to add the impression of constant acceleration to a track while sticking close to it's original mood and theme at all times.
